The Man Who Would Be King (Silhouette Intimate Moments, No. 1124)
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (January, 1902)
Author: Linda Turner
Average review score:

Great fun! Highly recommended
Author Linda Turner premiers the new twelve-book adventure Romancing the Crown with THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING. Fans of last years' series FIRSTBORN SONS will welcome the return of the influence of Montebello where lives and hearts are transformed. THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING kicks off this year's series with proof that the missing Prince Lucas Sebastiani, the firstborn of King Marcus and Queen Gwendolyn of Montebello and heir to the throne, still lives. When proof of the prince's survival falls into the hands of reporter Eliza Windmere, she begins an odyssey that will change her life forever.

Moments before King Marcus announces his successor, given his son's presumed death, Eliza bursts into the palace with proof that Prince Lucas survived his plane crash. The King asks Duke Lorenzo Sebastiani to reopen the investigation. Lorenzo's animosity toward Eliza is understandable, as he believes she seeks nothing but headlines. Nevertheless, he agrees to accompany Eliza back to Colorado to personally investigate the site where new evidence has been found. In return for granting Eliza an exclusive, she agrees to protect the details of the investigation until Lucas can be found.

Turner pens a lively romance in THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING. Eliza's determination to gain access to the King and Queen's palace as well as her ethical handling of the facts of the pursuit lend her a strength of character that is at once entrancing and admirable. As Lorenzo's irritation gives way to attraction, his transformations are delightful. Further, one of the best scenes of the books is when he buys "new" clothes at Goodwill so that he can go undercover. Turner's skill at bringing these scenes to life gives the text a vivacious flair.

The first book of such a broad sweeping series must, by necessity, include the tidbits that pave the way for subsequent books. Turner successfully blends many telling tidbits into her narrative, rising to the challenge without loosing the pace and impetus that keeps her own story moving a sound clip with only one or to slight pauses. The fascinating hints at future players and intrigue will certainly keep this reviewer interested in upcoming additions. Highly recommended.

Wow-What A Book!!
First of all, in order to fully get involved in the story, I recommend first reading "The Firstborn Sons" series. The series includes:"Born To Protect", "Born of Passions","Born In Secret",and "Born Royal". The foundation of the new/upcoming series is built here.

WOW!! Linda Turner really knows how to capture the readers attention so that they're hooked into reading this book. It's part of an upcoming series called, Romancing The Crown. This is my second LT book and I label her as a keeper.

In this story, we are introduced to Lorenzo, a Duke and next to inherit the throne, and Eliza, a reporter who is a journalist with a big heart. The two join forces to investigate the crash and dissappearance of the heir and prince of a country. They follow one lead after the other and along the way they fall in love. Of course neither one is aware of this until almost the end. Do they find the prince?? Get your hands on a copy of the book. TODAY!!

LT is a great writer who makes the characters so real, you begin to feel as if they are friends of yours. I loved this book and I was sorry when I reached the end. I am looking forward to the next installment. I am also going to order a few more of Linda Turner's books today.
Happy Reading!!

Martin Luther King, Jr. (Biography (A & E))
Published in Hardcover by Park Lane (November, 1998)
Author: V. P. Franklin
Average review score:

I felt like I was actually there with him
When I first began to read the first chapter of this book I was looking at the dates in the book and realized that they were from not that long ago it was recent that this happened. I felt sorr for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr when he had to repeat school because of his lack of knowledge. The parts that struck cords with me is that he was playing a major role in history and he could not be with his wife and cherish the moments of their child being born because he was always doing something with the civil roght movement. He wasw never at home to be with his kids and when he did come home it was not that much. He also was put in jail a lot for things that he felt was right and there were a lot of people who were trying to hold him down from doing his job. But this is a really great book and I encourage anyone to read it to see what we had to go through just to ride on the bus and to vote amd to get our right we were denied after slavery was abolished. But this is a really good book for a person to read if they are doing a report on him.

V.P. Franklin looks deep.
Franklin looks deep into the life of the late Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. His insightful looks on the full compass of his life makes for an extraordinary piece of work. Never before mentions of different aspects of King's life makes this biography a must read for all who have loved and adored King.

Meet Martin Luther King Jr.

Author: James Tertius de Kay

WOW! I can't believe what my child learned.
We have read a lot of biographies, but this one was different. I don't really know why. My son, 6, was captivated by this book. He now devours EVERYTHING he hears about Martin Luther King, Jr. My son learned about a man like himself in many ways who experienced difficulties and fought unfair laws just because of his color. He also learned about a man named Gandhi and the influence he had on Dr. King. I was so impressed by the impression that this book made on my son. And he recognized scenes from the book when we watched the movie "KING." Rarely does any book have this much impact on a young child. It definitely deserves 5 stars.

Great Bio for Kids
This is the perfect biography for kids around 8-12 years old to read. It has lots of information and is a little more advanced than a Martin Luther King biography you would find in a first grade classroom would be.This would also be a great book to read if a child has to do a report.

The Men Who Made the Movies: Interviews With Frank Capra, George Cukor, Howard Hawks, Alfred Hitchcock, Vincente Minnelli, King Vidor, Raoul Walsh, and William A. Wellman
Published in Paperback by Ivan R Dee, Inc. (April, 2001)
Authors: Frank Capra and Richard Schickel
Average review score:

Revealing Interaction with Eight "Masters"
For more than 20 years, I relied on Schickel for guidance when determining which films to see; also, for gaining a better understanding of the films I had seen. In this volume, he provides interviews with eight great directors: Hitchcock, Capra, Minimill, Cukor, Hawks, Wellman, Vidor, and Walsh. In recent weeks, I have also read Robert J. Emery's two The Directors (Take One and Take Two) and Bogdanovich's Who the Devil Made It which also offer interviews and conversations with various great directors. Don't worry about duplications; that is, what Cukor, Hawks, Hitchcock, Walsh, and Wellman have to say. Bogdanovich, Emery, and Schickel have different questions to ask, different nuances of film making to explore, and approach the directors from quite different perspectives. The responses they obtain from the same directors differ. For that reason, I strongly urge fellow film buffs to purchase all of these volumes. The order in which they are read is unimportant.

What differentiates Schickel from Bogdanovich and Emery is the fact that, for many years, he wrote film reviews for Time magazine and thus had an immense audience with which to share his opinions about more than a thousand films. Also, he is the author of more than 20 books about film making which include biographies of Marlon Brando, Cary Brando, and James Cagney. Over the years, he has earned and richly deserves his reputation as one of the most thoughtful and knowledgeable of film authorities. In this volume, he interacts with eight of the greatest film directors. At no time does he seem intimidated by them nor does he ever disrupt the flow of information exchanged with self-serving observations. He guides each director into subject areas which are probably of great interest to most film buffs but he also allows each director to ramble, digress, etc. when reminiscing or when sharing specific opinions about films and actors with whom they were associated. Sure, there is some delicious gossip. And yes, some insights not otherwise available. However, for the most part, Schickel sets up various subjects and then allows each director (many of them a personal friend) to proceed wherever he may wish, at whatever pace he may prefer. His brilliant orchestration of responses ensures their scope and depth. That is to say, he did not merely turn on the recorder and then let each of the eight take it from there. On his reader's behalf, Schickel remains actively involved, indeed engaged in the exchange of information but at no time is intrusive. Within its genre, this is indeed a "classic."

Covers special challenges and observations
This film critic's survey of eight of Hollywood's finest directors and their works uses the interview process to explore the work of American filmmakers over the last decades. Hitchcock, Capra, Cuckor and others share their achievements in a revealing set of interviews covering special challenges and observations.

who will be enchanted by the story of the young Merlin. This is the tale of the boy (Merlin) and his confrontation of Vortigern. The tyrant needs a boy 'without a father', whose blood must keep Vortigern's crumbling tower upright. But Merlin has a dream that foretells of a battle between a red and a white dragon. On his instruction, a lake beneath the tower is drained, and two eggs are found. A red and a white dragon burst forth..they fight.. Spellbinding! Jane Yolen is a renowned writer, and this great book is illustrated beutifully by Li Ming.

Merlin: The King's Wizard
Published in Paperback by Warner Books (December, 1999)
Author: James Mallory
Average review score:

Buhhhhhhhhhh!
I want Mab so bab...er, so bad. She's a bit of a slag, but you have to love her motivation. Great adaptation of the movie. better, even.

The Merlin saga continues...
In this, the second of the three part novelization by James Mallory we read the story of Merlin as he first dethrones King Vortigern and then puts Uther on the throne. King Arthur comes into play as well as we read his story from childhood, on through his youth and finally as king when he draws Excalibur from the stone. Queen Mab of the Old Ways meanwhile plots and schemes for Merlin's and Arthur's downfall with the aid of Morgan Le Fay. The story is pretty faithful to the miniseries so if you've seen it there will be no surprises here. What makes this novelization worth reading is Mallory's command of the legend and it's many characters, making them seem fresh and interesting. There are some scenes not in the miniseries but not as many as the previous book which had quite a bit more. The story moves along at a brisk pace (a welcome change from most fantasy novels which plod on forever), and is a worthy addition to Arthurian fiction.

Movie Palaces (Architecture and Film, 1)
Published in Hardcover by Hennessey & Ingalls (April, 2001)
Authors: Ave Pildas, Lucinda Smith, and King Vidor
Average review score:

Palace Pix Clicks
This book is a fabulous collection of color photos of movie theatre exteriors, interiors, and box offices all around the country. It includes a striking two page spread of Graumann's Chinese (now Mann's Chinese) in Hollywood, probably the most famous of them all. Shot in the 70's and 80's, these photos depict many structures that have since disappeared. Elegant, ornate, and colorful, they speak of the day when seeing a movie was the premiere modern entertainment experience. What a striking contrast to the "multiplexes", the tiny characterless cubes, in which we view movies today!

This book is beautifully designed, and bears a fascinating introductory text and forward.

A FULL COLOR BOOK OF THEATRE PHOTOGRAPHS
Photographer Ave Pildas gives movie palace buffs a book filled with photographs of many theatre buildings throughout the United States. About half of the photos are of theatres in the Los Angeles area while the other half are of theatres in other states. There is some information on the general history of movie palaces, but the main purpose of this book are the color photos of the exterior and interior of these fantastic buildings. The book has been out-of-print for years(It was published in 1980) but if you are interested in movie theatres, you will not go wrong if you can track down a copy of this book. Highly recommended.

Mrs Todd's Shortcut/from Skeleton Crew
Published in Audio Cassette by Random House (Audio) (July, 1986)
Author: Stephen King
Average review score:

A brilliant classic
I received this cassette about ten years ago, when I was pretty much still a kid. I have grown up with this story; it has kept my family company on many a long car trip. Well, the older I get, the more I understand and appreciate the brilliance of this tale. The reading is excellent. I really feel as if I'm "cursin' and spittin' " up those "woods roads" along with Homer and Ophelia in her little Go-Devil. The narrator truly deserves an award for his reading. I don't know if it could ever be topped! He changes voices convincingly, and has the New England dialect down pat. Trust me, audio book fans, this cassette is magic! My biggest fear is that I will wear out my old copy before I can locate another. It's that good.

Entrancing story with very raw, true to life characters
I loved it. Wish I could find it again. Will pay double the cost for it.
